When we purchased a washer and dryer for our son's family, we also purchased the pedestals. I am short and didn't really think that I needed them, however after using our son's, I realized it was very convenient so that a person doesn't have to bend over to get the clothes out of the machine. Great concept.

Pedestal are overpriced. They are good to have but not a necessity. The best thing about the pedestals is the washer and dryer stand-off higer and allows easier access to the washer/dryer.
