Excellent Compact Washer

I couldn't be happier with this compact washer. It’s perfect for one person and an apartment. Operation is quiet, and the spin cycle (even at the highest) is well-balanced and quiet. Clothes come out nearly dry. Features I love include a Drain+Spin — which you will use if you have overloaded the washer and it can’t get the load balanced well enough to spin the contents dry (take out some of the contents and use Drain+Spin to get them rung out). I’ve used several cycles so far, and each works well for the type of load. I’ve been using the Tide pods (one per load, as this is a small washer). I tested with some really dirty clothes, and they came out perfectly clean. The only thing I looked for on this washer was a tub light (like the big LG has). One design consideration for LG is to think about using higher-contrast lettering on the control panel (or to back-light the entire panel). Beneath each selection is the name of the selection (Gray background with black lettering). This might be hard for some folks to read without direct light. Good overall, but won't do a hot wash

I've had this machine about 2.5 months, so far I like it. I needed a very compact machine and in the USA there aren't a lot of good choices and this one seemed to be the best of what's available. It wrings the clothes so dry that they can hang for just a few hours to finish up drying. It uses VERY LITTLE water and is super energy efficient. But, here's what I don't like - 1) I'm told that newer Energystar machines like this one tend to mix in cold water to lower the cost of a load of laundry (because hot water costs more than cold). That is certainly the case with this machine. Unless you select the VERY LONG sanitary cycle, the machine will only due a lukewarm wash at best. It will always mix in cold water and will not do a true "hot water only" wash cycle. The sanitary cycle uses the internal heater and that allows a hot wash. It would seem to me that if I select HOT as the cycle temp, that is what I should get, but alas, that is not the case with this machine. 2) The machine spins very fast (up to 1400 rpm) in order to really wring the clothes dry, but that can cause the machine to shake and rattle a lot. You can select a lower spin speed, but that leaves more water in the clothes. 3) Lastly, the drain pump on the machine makes a loud rattling noise when it activates, this is annoying as my machine is in a closet in my living room. 4) Because of the limited choices in this size range, the machines are very expensive like this one is. In the full size range, a similar machine could be found for at least $200 less. Supply and demand, I guess. So in short, I find it does a decent job cleaning, and uses very little water, but the cycles are long, it's quite noisy, and you can't get a hot wash w/o choosing the very long sanitary cycle. We've had this washing machine for about four months and we love it. It's quiet and does a an excellent job cleaning our clothes. It has a number of wash cycle choices for different jobs, but allows you to make changes within those cycles. For instance, I like to wash almost everything with tap water temperature. Washes well, doesn't always dissolve laundry pod, wrings clothes nearly dry, but...SHAKES UNCONTROLABLY IN SPIN. Can't have anything on top while running..have anti-vibration pads AND hired a contractor to build extra support walls under the floor it rests on which has stopped the entire house shaking but the machine still rocks.
