Our first microwave lasted approx. 14 yrs so we will see if this one lasts as long. It is on the pricey end for countertop microwaves, When we needed to replace the original one, we went with a much less expensive one from a different manufacturer, and sadly it only lasted 3 yrs, so we decided to go back to the KitchenAid brand. This one is identical in appearance, features, and size to the original one which enabled us to re-use the original trim kit and install it with ease into the built in cabinetry opening.

    Not as good as older Kitchenaid model it replaces

    Our 20+ year old Kitchenaid microwave finally got too gross for us. We had it built into our wall, with a 24" wide trim kit. Unfortunately, almost no-one makes microwaves for 24" trim kits anymore, not to mention they don't make 24" wide trim kits. This Kitchenaid model had dimensions that indicated it would fit if I trimmed the old trim kit's opening, which I successfully did. But, there are so many ways that this model is inferior to the older model 1) The keypad is much harder to use. On this model, you have to press exactly in the center of the buttons to get it to work. The older model was much easier to use. 2) On the older model, when you opened the door it would stop beeping. This model keeps beeping for its programmed number of beeps 3) On the older model, when the Timer expired, it returned to the clock display. This model stays on "Finished" so you have to press STOP to return to the clock display. 4) On the older model, you could enter power level first or time to run first. On this model you have to press time to run before pressing power level. On the good side, this newer model is quieter.
