Over the past 79 years InSinkErator has been known for building the world's best food waste disposers. Badger food waste disposers are a reliable and functional choice when affordability is the prime concern. There's the rugged galvanized steel construction and reliable Dura-Drive motor. There's their exclusive "We Come To You" in-home warranty. And there's a range of models and sizes to match your needs. Available at AppliancesConnection

Badger 5XP
Their Badger 5XP model provides more power and a longer warranty than the Badger 5 or Badger 1.

Why Have A Disposer?
There's a place for kitchen garbage, and it's not underneath your sink or beside your countertop. In fact, no matter where you keep a garbage can, getting rid of food waste can be a messy, smelly chore. Bagged garbage can also attract animals and insects, and create unsanitary conditions around your home. With an InSinkErator disposal in your kitchen, chicken bones, fruit rinds, coffee grounds and more can go right down the drain and into the garbage disposal -- where they're virtually liquefied to safely flow into your sewage system or septic tank. You'll enjoy a cleaner food preparation area, less cans and bags cluttering your home, and fewer trips carrying garbage to the curb.

Environmental Benefits
By putting an InSinkErator disposer in your kitchen, you're doing your part to help reduce a growing problem. That's because when food waste is dumped in landfills, bacteria and other harmful organisms can seep into the ground and contaminate our water. With an InSinkErator disposer, food waste is ground into fine particles and safely flushed into your sewage system. Decades of scientific studies have shown this to be a sound ecological alternative. At wastewater treatment facilities, the food waste can be converted into useful energy, or recycled into agricultural fertilizer.

Badger Series BADGER5XP 3/4 HP Continuous Feed Waste Disposer with 1725 RPM Dura-Drive Induction Motor, Rugged Galvanized Steel Construction is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 2411.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top quality, easy to install, quiet operation The old one was 17 years old, still working but the rubber splash guard was almost totally gone. The inside was pretty rusted so I figured it's time to replace it rather than just the rubber guard. So I got replaced it with the same model since the old one still worked great and installation would be easy. It was very easy. Didn't need to replace the collar with 'Insinkerator' stamped on it since the original one at the sink opening was still in great shape. That saved a step with putty... the new one works great and is quiet. I will do more with this one to keep it clean and running great for years to come, now that I know about those tips.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy replacement for dead Badger 5 Bought a Badger 5XP to replace a 5 year old Badger 5. The old 5 developed a leak through the bottom (which I thankfully caught early). I would normally hope these would last a little longer, but we use it all the time and the last one had a garlic press basket go down it (metal that was fished out after the fact), so in reality it owed us nothing. Went with the 5XP over the 444 or the Evolution Series because of the space needed under the sink, and the ease of installation (no plumbing modifications, as the mounts are identical to the 5). The plug/wiring was a little finicky to transfer, but everything swapped over, and it works as expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So good I bought it again after 20 years!!! I moved into my home in 1997 and had my first 'garbage disposal'. I used it on anything food... peels, stems and even chicken bones! It was a tank!! I had been to friends homes who always worried about what they would put into their disposal or worse yet not even use it!!! I'm not sure how old mine was before I moved in but it lasted me 20 years. I knew it was a quality product so when it finally died, it was imperative that we buy the same one which had the highest motor power. So far it is fabulous! I know it is said that things are not made the same today but I am betting on this product to do its job for many years to come.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works fine, but get a buddy to help to install The Badger 5XP works well. I have used insinkerator products before, and never had a complaint. The reason I replaced the old one was that the motor finally gave out after many years of service. Installation is basically simple, but I have 2 tips for installation: 1. If you are installing a dishwasher drain hose, don't forget to punch out the plastic "knockout" before installation (guess how I know). 2. Basically after you are ready to mount the unit under the sink (not much space, and you are on your back), you must lift the unit, line up the three prongs, and turn it. This is tricky, and another set of strong hands will help.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job. I installed an InSinkErator 10 years ago when I had a new kitchen sink and counter top installed. It worked flawlessly during those years but without warning it began leaking heavily from what I determined to be the lower seal and it was only by very good luck that I happened to be barefoot when this happened and I noticed the water on the floor. I chose the Badger 5XP as it is a direct replacement for my old unit and was installed without having to alter any of the existing plumbing. This was easily performed and, like the original, works quite well without a lot of noise. My sole reservation is that this new unit may not last longer than the one it replaced.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It does what I needed well My old disposal of 18 years finally broke down and putting the Badger 5XP in its place was easy to do. The instructions were written well, and installation was easy to do. I was expecting it to be as loud as my old one, but it is relatively quite as it could be without the added sound dampening of more expensive models. I would have liked to see an electrical cord supplied with the unit, but I was able to use the one from my old one just fine. Installation wasn't bad, but trying to install anything by yourself under a sink is a bit tricky. The collar mechanism they use to attach the disposal to the sink works great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great grinder I remodeled our kitchen and a disposer was one of the top listed items we wanted that was not in old kitchen. This 5xp grinds up all the scraps left on plates after a meal. Used to throw all this in waste basket and that got really smelly quickly. Now it goes down the drain. The homes in our area are notorious for not having good drainage slope and have had problems with stoppages just from the food that gets by your sink basket. Have been using this for months now with no signs of trouble. Just make sure you run water a while after use to flush everything well. Great disposer, fairly quiet, seems powerful, and I just can't see spending bookoo bucks on a much larger one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Historical design leakage problem I am now too old to hold the disposal up and fasten it in place, but a small jack suited that purpose just fine for installation. This is our third disposal in ten years. Both others failed due to internal leaks. Have investigated on the internet, thinking it would be a seal failure that could be readily replaced. However, I found that it is a metal part that corrodes thru and the thickness is such that it typically takes five years for it to corrode away. Like batteries, you don't buy them you rent them. So I'm on my third 5 year rental. Wouldn't want to replace it with a different model due to the retrofitting required for the sink drain adapter and pipe changes.
