BADGER 5 Badger 5 1/2 HP Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4003.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Internal leak after only 6 years I have installed a Badger 5 in two houses in the past. The latest model has an internal leak causing water to drip constantly from the reset button area. This just started recently and luckily was found early. I could see this happening to an older or cheaper unit, but at only 6 years since install, it is a disappointment. I would like to stay within the same family of product, as the brackets and hose connections are all still perfectly clean and secure, showing no signs of leakage. However, if product failures occured this early on the Badger 5, I just don't know if I have faith in the other products.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This Product is COMPLETE GARBAGE *LITERALLY* I had this product for less than a year and it suddenly stops working. Its not like this thing is running everyday, only when there is particles on the plate. My last garbage disposal lasted 13 years and it had 10 warranty with in home service. I thought this product would have been solid but it is nothing more than hanging plastic under your sink. This thing is so loud it is unbelievable. I would not recommend this unit to anyone. On top of that the company is offering me 65% off to get a new product and there retail price is so high. my local home depot/ lowes sells it cheaper

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lost faith in this product I've always used Insinkerators products. Plus sold them while working for a plumbing wholesaler. I had a Badger 5 installed in my vacation home less than 3 years ago and it has developed a leak in the housing.so far it only leaks when I operate the disposer. Apparently leaks in the housing are starting to be reported more often.I 've also noticed that it's getting noisier. Since Insinkerator does't have a policy in place to address this beyond the 2 year warranty,I will be replacing it at my expense. I called Insinkerator about this. In retrospect the unit in my mothers house only lasted 5 years before it completely died. I installed a stainless steel unit in my primary home this fall. hopefully I won't have any problems with that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Zero issues We used an insinkerator that was a different model for about 10 years and never had any issues. It was the one thing in the house that never gave us any trouble! When our house burned down we of course went with another but got this model. It's been doing awesome for the past two months now. They said just to make sure we run lots of hot water down the disposal when we are using it. My mom also has an insinkerator and has used it for five years with zero problems and loves it. It was leaking the day after installation but we feel that it was plumbing mistake rather than an issue with the product. The plumber came back and fixed it no problem.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works fine We had a 1/3 hp Badger that came with the house. It started leaking, so I moved up to the 1/2 hp. I stopped there as it is the same on the outside as the old one and made changing it fairly easy. I wish they came with a pigtail and a plug. It took almost as long to open it up and swap the cord as the rest of the install did. I'd rather cut a plug off if I didn't need it rather than fiddle around in that little opening with the wires and fight with getting the cord tension thing out and back in. It works fine and seems to be a bit more powerful. There were no complaints about the old one. I wish they'd figure out how to make them not rust out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Mixture of Reliability and Good Value Purchased the Badger 5 almost one year ago to replace an older unit that was malfunctioning. I relied on researching reviews of various disposal units. Made the decision to purchase the Badger 5 which appeared to be rated at or above average, the solid warranty and finally the price for comparable units. Not being the most mechanically inclined person, I found installation to be relatively easy following the instructions included with the unit. While not being the quietest unit, it has performed flawlessly since it was purchased. Would have rated the unit as excellent except for the volume of sound created by the unit. I recommend this product

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Another Leaker We have a Badger 5-81A garbage disposal unit that came with our new home in 2006. As many others have stated, today we found out that the unit has been leaking water out the bottom. Luckily, my wife was storing some of our cleaning products in a tub that extened undernearth the Badger and all the water was contained by the tub. As others have stated, we are extremely disappointed in the short life of this unit, yes 8 years to us is an unacceptable wear out lifetime. Jessica I have already sent an email to insinkeratorfeedback@emerson.com noting our displeasure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great disposer at modest cost I reviewed several disposers before choosing the Badger 5 -- which was recommended by several friends by the way. I installed it in our beach house which we rent during the summer months and live in much of the off-season. It worked well for us, and survived the rental season which is always a real plus! I am not the most experienced plumber (I am a clergy-person), but found the installation reasonable and was able to accomplish it with no leaks the first time. I was most impressed with its quiet operation, as it was not listed among the really quiet disposers. It seems to work great and has given no problems in its first year of service.
