Bad Screws Design, Difficult to Install, Poor Quality

We bought this Trim Kit in November 2017. Spent a lot of time installing the frame to the microwave. The four corner screws design is very bad on the trim. They are not vertically aligned and make it almost impossible to put pressure on the trim and get it fix to our cabinet. What`s even worse is that I doubt that it`s not compatible with microwave PEM31SFSS. The microwave itself is a poorly designed product I have to say - its door doesn`t open anymore only after 1 month usage. But the trim lacks in height, which also deteriorates the door opening issue. GE doesn`t cover anything on the trim kit and won`t fix the microwave unless you spent another half day pulling everything out of your cabinet. And of course, even they can fix the door problem, you need to put everything back AGAIN..... I guess we give up and will just leave as it is.... We spent $500 and got a microwave along with the trim kit stopped functioning in 1 month. Stay away from this trim kit if you want to buy microwave PEM31SFSS.

Cons: Expensive, Poor Design, Bad Quality, Bad Warranty Service

Nice Features

Overall, the look is nice for this trim package however it is made of plastic with Stainless Steel laminate. This is a knock on the replacement of my last GE Microwave as it’s trim was actual stainless steel which couldn’t be used with the new microwave. I’m sure this was a marketing decision to help give more sales for built in systems. Finally, installation took a few hours and I would recommend the base be level prior to placing the microwave with base in it slots. I feel this made it easier than shimming after installation.

Too wide compared to previous model!

GE used to make the JEM31SF001 microwave with a trim kit that was 16.5" high by 26 1/4" wide on the outside, and it was made of metal and had ventilation slots. Zillions of homeowners used this unit to build in their microwave into an upper cabinet. Now the units are failing, and although they have a similar but lower powered microwave for this application this trim kit DOES NOT FIT those openings. Height is OK but it is too wide by 1/2", causing it to run over the doors of adjacent cabinets. Hence it is unusable as a replacement.

The trim kit is easy to install with the help of a handyman. It is is good match for the microwave. However, it was a replacement part. The first kit shipped had a blemish defect. The big box store sent a replacement. Great store to deal with as a customer.
