We purchased this unit just before Thanksgiving to replace a seventeen year old single oven unit. We chose GE because of our experience with a GE refrigerator (30 cu ft) that lasted through ~25 years of our 6 kids plus visitors household and its reviews. The installation instructions were not super clear on whether this unit was coming with the rails that required the additional height in the opening, but once we got the unit it was obvious that it had the rails. I couldn`t finish the preparation in the cabinet until the unit arrived. We opted for the unit with the fewer options as we had never used those features with our previous oven, so we don`t miss them on this unit. Aesthetically, this is a great unit, and its operation (save the timer and the oven light button) is quite simple and intuitive. The only limiting factor that we have seen is that when you select the timer and set the preset hours / minutes, then hit start, there is no portion of the display that blinks to tell you the timer is counting down. You just have to wait and watch that the preset time drops by one after the first minute. The oven light button (one button for both upper and lower overs) is located on the Lower Over side of the panel, and once you`ve found it once, it is easy to remember its location (not intuitive compared to all the other functions). The operation instructions are concise and clear, making its mandatory reading a breeze (there are some instructions that you must read to prevent damaging your unit). I had also read some other comments about smells after starting the unit, but if you follow the instructions, you will clean the unit prior to its use and eliminate the smell. I also read a complaint that the lower unit heats faster that the upper, but that is simply a function of the higher insulation R factor for the lower unit`s upper surface (being the upper oven). Both ovens heat rather quickly, and maintain their independent temperatures extremely well. The lack of exposed heating elements keeps cleaning up those interim food spills quick and simple. With thirty-five people in our house for the week of Thanksgiving, the oven performed flawlessly.
Pros: Pleasing looks, ease of use, accuracy of temperature control, easy spill cleaning, many others
Cons: Timer actually timing indication; You MUST read the manual to know little items to prevent damaging the unit (like: no aluminum foil on the bottom of the oven to catch drips...)
