Originally founded in 1934, in New Zealand, by Sir Woolf Fisher and Maurice Paykel, the company has grown as one of the leading manufacturers of major appliances known globally. For over 80 years, Fisher & Paykel has been dedicated to challenging the conventional appliance by reinventing major appliances with never-before-used technologies at the time they were implemented. As early as the 1950s they started using plastic liners with polyurethane foam for insulation on their refrigerators. In the beginning, Fisher & Paykel were a modest importer of most home appliances from other companies, such as, Crosley, Maytag, and Pilot. Fisher & Paykel, under license, started to manufacture washing machines from Kelvinator. They have enjoyed tremendous success and recently had Haier purchase 90% shares of Fisher & Paykel.
