Knee scooter works well design improvements needed

I was using the scooter after my Achilles tendon surgery. The scooter work swell but couple of items. The pad where the knee rests is stable but doesn't afford enough cushioning protection. Have to make sure to not rest on it to long. The second items it eh break arms near the rear wheels loosen with use and no tool provided to tighten them. Allen key needed. The brakes loosen as there are no locking washers installed to keep the bolts from loosening and allow the brakes to fail if you aren't vigilant about monitoring them. Also for folks with long torsos the handle bars don't go up high enough so you end up slouching over a bit which causes back pain over time. With all scooters you need to be very deliberate in your movements so you don't tip over from to tight a turn. Faster is not better for your safety.

Lynnette Huml

I bought this for my mate after he was told to stay off his leg as much as possible to reduce swelling and to allow the wound caused by leg ulcers to heal better after a skin graph it was doing great but i'm not sure if it was just the amount of use or faulty metal but the the part that is listed as 20 on the diagram which is the knee pad bar torn and the knee pad part is no longer able to be used due to the the bar ripping, we've had the scooter since dec. 13th of 2016 it's now july 5th it only lasted 7 months i'm really looking for a replacement knee pad pole but buy it for 50$ is outrageous.

We got this walker when my wife broke her heel, and it was amazing. She is not great on crutches, but with this scooter, she was able to get everywhere she needed to be! Of course, once she was done with it, I took it out to the nearby skateboard park, and proceeded to put it through it's paces. The leg rest snapped off, but there was a pre-existing crack in the support pole from regular use; and the handlebars torqued out of position, but you can adjust that with no tools, so no big deal. All in all, it was a solid investment!

Not perfect but better than iWalk outdoors
By DumfriesLizzie from Dumfries, VA, United States on June 6, 2017 Verified OwnerOverall Rating: | ☆☆☆☆☆ | 4 |
Recommended Product:
I actually own both devices. Learning no one device will do it all. Have torn ankle tendons. The iWalk is good for the stairs inside my house and short walks room to room or standing in the kitchen. The DV8 will get you outdoors better. I can go around my block (a little less than 1 mile) in about 30 minutes. Slow but much faster and with much less effort than the iWalk. I have to stop alot and rest the knee that all my weight is on. Now using a slip-on knee pad that I use for gardening, crawling around in the crawlspace, etc. Helps a little. I have yet to try the scooter on my work commute, but I have used the scooter in shopping, at the DMV, etc. Places where I can get up close to the door. As noted by others, you have to expect that the smallest debris and crevices in the sidewalk will turn the little wheels. Hit the crevices perpendicular and with a little speed. However, be careful about downhill speed. The brakes are rudimentary (as noted by others) and the slick, treadless plastic wheels have you zipping down the roadway like you are on ice. I am going downhill on the sidewalks and coming uphill in the roadway. A little better. I also wear a bike helmet. I don't care about the laughs. Indoors on a hard floor, the scooter is great. Carpet is slower going but not impossible.

Great Alternative to Crutches
By Terry M from South Alabama on May 1, 2017 Verified OwnerOverall Rating: | ☆☆☆☆☆ | 4 |
Recommended Product:
Broke my heel. No weight on it for 6 + weeks. I’ve been using this scooter for 4weeks now. It would be hard to live without it. I’m very independent. This scooter gives some of it back to me. Does well on smooth surfaces. Sometimes it rolls too good. Doesn’t do as good on rough surfaces. Even a small rock will deflect it. On grass, you have to take a step with good foot, then pick up front wheels and move it forward. Repeat. Still better than crutches. This is my main problem with this scooter. The wheels are held on with bolt with a rounded head. The head has a hex socket for tightening. When you make a tight turn toward the side of your good foot, this bolt head will hit the inside ankle bone and take a chunk out of your skin. If my wife would let me in my shop, I would make a cover for this. In the past 4 weeks, I’ve cut it. It scabs over. I peal the scab off. And repeat.

Incredible

This is the most incredible thing for when I broke my ankle. I ride it to work every day and I can easily load it in and out of my car every day because I can lift it with one hand and hop into the car. (don't worry I broke my non driving foot). The scooter has honestly made everything so much easier. I can actually use my hands I can get around the office I can help out around the house. Crutches were useless and so annoying. I can also go to the gym and grab weights and work out...its been absolutely amazing. Also its super fast when you want it to be which is amazing for commuting. I love this thing.
