Despite the numerous advantages a dishwasher has over handwashing, automation doesn’t necessarily mean perfect results. A common complaint consumers have with dishwashers is that they don’t get dishes completely dry. With their new CrystalDry feature, not only did Bosch find a method to eliminate excess moisture, it also accelerates the drying process. Below, we’ll examine the CrystalDry feature as well as other impressive aspects of the SHV88PZ63N 24-Inch Built-In Fully Integrated Dishwasher from the Benchmark series.

Overall Construction

Appearance

Bosch Dishwasher Rack positioning and easy adjustment directions

This spacious, panel-ready dishwasher has enough capacity to fit up to 16 place settings within its stainless steel tub. This is with the combination of the unit’s RackMatic system andMyWay Rack. The RackMatic system allows for the middle rack to be set at three different heights. The rack’s roll and pitch can also be set – e.g. it can be partially rolled so that the left side is higher than the right, the pitch can be set so that the front is higher than the rear, etc. The topmost MyWay Rack is made especially for bowls and oversized mugs you might normally attempt to jam into the bottom rack. A removable silverware tray dispenses with the need for the basket also normally found in the bottom rack. That way you’ll always have room for cast iron skillets or large stock pots on the bottom.

Cycles and Options

The SHV88PZ63N comes with seven standard cycles you would expect from a dishwasher of this caliber such as Normal, Heavy, and Glass. What sets this unit apart from the competition are its seven additional wash options including Eco for lightly soiled dishes which uses less water and energy and Express for glassware and dessert dishware that needs to be re-used at large gatherings. You’ll also find their exclusive SpeedPerfect and CrystalDry options. SpeedPerfect is a time-saving cycle. It increases water pressure and starts the heating mode earlier during cycles. This means added water and energy usage, but decreases cycle times by up to 25%. The efficient nature of the other cycles offsets the judicious use of the resource hungry SpeedPerfect program which qualifies this model for an EnergyStar rating. Let’s take an in-depth look at the CrystalDry.

CrystalDry

CrystalDry is unlike any other dishwasher feature you’ve seen. The drying cycle in a typical dishwasher uses a heating element at the bottom of the unit, similar to the baking element in an oven. While this Bosch dishwasher has such an element, it brings something more to the table with CrystalDry. In the base of the dishwasher is a compartment that stores zeolite pellets. Zeolite is a mineral that has an intense thermogenic reaction with water. CrystalDry takes advantage of this reactivity by shunting excess humidity to the zeolite. This generates up to 176 degrees F which is dispersed into the dishwasher. The powerful heat gets dishes up to 60% dryer than competing models. Even notoriously tough to dry tupperware and plastic baby bottles are sapped of moisture in this process.

Quiet Operation

This unit is one of the quietest dishwashers on the market. The main component that makes this possible is the EcoSilence drive. The video above details how this revolutionary advancement allows for frictionless operation significantly mitigating reverberation. This works in tandem with other noise-reducing elements such as multiple insulation layers, a sound-absorbing base, and a grindless food filtration mechanism resulting in an operating noise level of just 40dBA. That’s pretty much the ambient sound level of a suburban living room. It’s so inaudible that Bosch included their patented InfoLight which projects a red light onto the floor underneath your washer to signal an active wash cycle.

Smart Appliance Capabilities

Bosch Appliances connect effortlessly when using HomeConnect. Image shows the HomeConnect app on a tablet.

With the Home Connect app, you can conveniently monitor and control your Bosch dishwasher from your smartphone or tablet. Just download the app then sync your device, and you’re ready to go. You’ll be able to start a wash cycle from anywhere. Trying to decorate for a dinner party in the living room but need to mind the dishes so you can set the table on time? With Home Connect, your device will ping you once a cycle is done. It’ll even inform you when dishwasher tabs and other supplemental products are running low. Home Connect can be set to automatically order replacements. That way, you never have to worry about being stuck without your dishwashing essentials.

Home Connect can save you money on service calls by granting a customer service representative remote access to your unit’s diagnostics for easy troubleshooting. If your issue can’t be solved remotely, Bosch will schedule an in-home appointment for you with their specialized service technicians. They’ll have all the information and parts needed so your dishwasher can be restored to normal working order as quickly as possible.
