GE Profile PP989DNBB Reviews & Ratings

PP989DNBB 30" Smoothtop Electric Downdraft Cooktop with 400 CFM, 3-Speed Fan, 4 Ribbon Heating Elements, Bridge Element, Hot Surface Indicators and Control Lock Capability in Black is rated 4.0889 out of 5 by 45.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent performance over the years for a hungry family! We have had this cooktop for almost 8 years and we could not be more pleased with it. I use it heavily as a full-time mom and wife, who is chief cook for 3 growing boys and a hubby who loves to eat at home. The downdraft exhaust is powerful and easily pulls steam and cooking odors out of the house. The cooktop heats very quickly and I really like the dual 6"/9" burner, which is perfect for heating my large cast iron skillet. The glass has held up well over the years and still looks great. The design can't be beat either as it looks sharp in our countertop. This cooktop was worth every penny and I fully expect to get many more years of use out of it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sleek styling. Good performance I bought this cooktop when I remodeled my kitchen. It replaces an old style coil-type electric. It performs well but it is a real pain to keep clean. Whenever you fry something the spattering is all over the cooktop. You have to remove all knobs and downdraft grille to clean under and around them every single time you cook. The exhaust fan extends down so much under it that I had to butcher and rig with duct tape the ducting to fit my existing set up (also a downdraft) Your pots and pans need to have a perfectly flat bottom, otherwise they rattle noisily and rock so much when heating up the that the contents spill over.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from fan of the fan I bought this unit for the downdraft feature, and that works well, as do the burners, which heat quickly and efficiently. An easier-to-clean unit would be an improvement. Knobs are close together and difficult to remove for quick wipe-ups. And I do get annoyed with appliances that require special cleaning products. Life is complicated enough -- surely the talented designers at GE can imagine a cooktop that can be cleaned beautifully with regular old cleanser or a spritz of all-purpose cleaner? Also, the other reviewers that pointed out the challenges of connecting the downdraft were not kidding. Is there a way to make this feature more accommodating to preexisting infrastructures?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The black looks very high end - installed in a black granite island We loved our GE Profile 30" downdraft cooktop and wanted to update the look when we had new granite countertops installed. The black cooktop looks sleek and gives the island a nice finished appearance. The down draft blower design was different than the one we replaced so we had to use some creative installation for the piping ductwork. Also, the power cord was not included with the cooktop, so we had to purchase one separately, which is disappointing, considering the price we paid for the unit. Overall, it is the best cooktop we found when comparing to other electric cooktops.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pretty, but not practical for real use I have had this cook top for 6 months and hate it more every day. Be aware that if you install this unit you may need to buy new cookware for even heating and to avoid scratches.    It is impossible to keep it clean and smudge free.  Every fingerprint, stray hair, and piece of lint shows.   You cannot clean it writh soap and water.    A simple overfow will likele require a razor blade to clean up.    It is simply not practical in a real family kitchen.  Read the manual before you make a purchase decision - there are a lot of rules and if not followed you will mar the finish.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Efficient I love the cooktop and I like how the two burners can heat up simultaneously for griddle cooking. This is my second cooktop and I will have this complaint about any ceramic cooktop I purchase from no on; the issue I have is the appearance after one cooking use. I wish they would come out with cookware that doesn't leave behind scratches or a cleaner that ACTUALLY removes them. There is no cleaner that works to my standards - I've tried them all. But I will always by a ceramic cooktop and it will probably be a GE from now on. Thank you!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not as good as my last GE cooktop Downdraft has 3 levels, but still doesn't "pull" like my last GE downdraft. I didn't get the gas downdraft for that very reason. Reviews said it didn't pull strong enough. Also the "burners" seem to be very inconsistent. I have to turn one of them up to a higher number to get the right amount of heat while another burner will heat the same pan with the same food at a much lower number. My last GE cooktop had interchangeable griddle/grill/burners and was very consistent, even after 18 years! Sometime newer isn't better.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too hard to clean! We had this new cooktop installed last week. It's a beautiful cooktop with good features, but after we read the cleaning instructions we're hesitant to use it. To keep its sheen requires a LOT of work. If we understand correctly, after each use we let it cool down, then spread a few drops of the ceramic cleaner (requirng some hard rubbing). and wipe clean. We had a ceramic cooktop in another home that required a damp sponge cleaning to make it look like new. We are very disappointed in your product.

What exactly is an Extended Service Plan?
An extended service plan is generally an extension of your original manufacturer's warranty. Most manufacturers warranty their products to be free from defects for up to one year from the date of purchase. This warranty virtually guarantees you that if your newly purchased product fails, the manufacturer will protect you from the high costs of replacement parts and labor necessary to repair your product. Extended service plans lengthen your product's coverage for up to an additional 60 months (5 years) to insure you get years of performance satisfaction from your newly purchased product.
How is this different than the manufacturer's warranty?
A manufacturer's warranty usually offers limited coverage for a limited time, with parts and labor carrying separate lengths of coverage. For example, a common manufacturer warranty of a product might cover a consumer for one full year on parts defects but only 90 days on the high cost of labor involved to change those parts. Extended service plans provide comprehensive, long term, even length coverage. This means that should your product fail within your plans coverage time frame, both parts and labor costs are covegrey.
How do I buy an Extended Service Plan?
Extended Service Plans can be purchased along with your product online, or via our toll free number.
Can I renew my Consumer Priority Service extended service plan?
Yes, service plans are renewable and must be submitted 30 days prior to the original plans expiration. Please contact a sales representative to discuss your renewal options.
What should I do if I need extended service?
Our extended service providers offer an easy to use interactive form online which you may use to request that they initiate a claim on your product. Your other alternative is to call the toll-free number on your extended warranty card or email and have a qualified representative make this request for you with the information you will provide. We believe that our claim initiation request process is the absolute best our industry has to offer. It is designed for simplicity and speed.
Who will perform the service on my product?
Our company works with over 11,000 authorized service professionals. Each technician is extensively trained by the respective manufacturers to provide service on your products. Authorized technicians must complete annual and bi-annual continued education exams in addition to being well versed in manufacturer supplied update bulletins to ensure their level of expertise is as current as the new products which come to market. We urge our customers to provide feedback regarding their experiences which we later use to insure that the level of service we are expected to provide is exactly the level of service you receive.
May I transfer my extended service plan to another person?
Our service plans are 100% transferable. If you would like transfer ownership of the covegrey product along with its coverage, we require that the request be supplied in writing. For assistance please contact a Representative. Please have all of the new owner's information at hand when requesting a transfer.
Will I have to pay a deductible or any other "hidden costs"?
Generally, the amount of a deductible is almost always proportional to the amount of the premium charged. In order to have a lower deductible, even as low as $0, the plan holder would generally have to agree to a higher premium. For those who want lower premiums, they must agree to a higher deductible. Our extended service plans carry a $0.00 deductible along with low premiums. This means that with an extended service plan there are no high upfront costs and they are committed to cover 100% parts and labor costs on any authorized claim.
When does my warranty start?
Depending on the type of coverage you own, an extended warranty begins at the conclusion of the shortest portion of the manufacturer’s warranty. If the manufacturer’s warranty was 90 day labor and 1 year parts, the extended warranty would begin on the 91st day and continue for the duration of the warranty period. All replacement, commercial and accidental plans begin on the date of purchase.
Why does my plan say "under $1000"?
Some plans carry a dollar value on them. This means that your product's purchase price, excluding tax, delivery and accessories is below the listed price on the contract. It's simply a classification based on the price of purchase of the product under warranty.
What does an accidental plan cover?
If you have added Accidental Coverage to your plan, this plan shall cover unintentional damages as a result of: impact, liquid damage or unintentional physical damage. Accidental Coverage does not cover intentional damages of any kind to the covered product or losses due to theft. Accidental Coverage does not cover willful damage, misuse, damage due to neglect, drops over 6 feet, fire damage or full immersion in water.

Accidental Coverage does not cover damage caused by the use of a product in a way the manufacturer never intended. Coverage for this plan shall begin 30 days after the date of purchase of the covered product.
Is my service plan worldwide?
All plans carry a worldwide option at no additional charge. Contact a sales professional for further details.
Who do I contact with further questions?
Please contact a sales professional at 1-800-299-9470.
