The disposer will grind almost all items of food waste. Naturally, some items require less time to grind than others. Items such as animal fat, skin and hard bones take longer to grind than vegetable parings. Mixing different types of waste will improve grinding efficiency. Food wastes are fed into the disposer through the sink drain opening. The wastes fall into the grinding mechanism and are shredded into particles small enough to be floated away by the water.

GE GFC530V Reviews & Ratings

GFC530V 1/2 HP Continuous Feed Waste Disposer with 2,800 RPM, Overload Protector, 2 Level Precutter, Jam Resistant and Stainless Turntable: Direct Wire is rated 4.3654 out of 5 by 260.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from No Problems In the time we've had this, I haven't really used it more than 10 times. So far, no clogs and nothing in it stinks, so I believe it is adequately grinding and disposing of scraps that have been put through it. Not noisy, actually quieter than our dishwasher (not GE, and we bought used, so older as well). One of the only things I don't like about it is the rubber part on top that keeps the food from going down into it is very stiff and just sits there, so I have to make a point to shove it down through with my hand before I run it. Even then, it's hard to get chunks through. That may not be all bad, though, I guess.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from good disposal I installed the disposal today. It is light weight and fairly easy to install. It is quiet when operating. The metal flange for in the sink is not concave, but flat. This keeps the water from draining completely. The is always a 1/4 inch of liquid remaining around the outside of the flange. The flange may fit better on newer or metal sinks. A clamp on the electrical cord inside the bottom compartment would provide additional protection against the electrical connection from coming apart. No way to unclog a jammed motor. some disposals have an Allen wrench to manually rotate the grinders.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent and Dependable This is a tried and true machine. I am happy with the disposal, but even more happy with the service I got when I did have a part break during the installation. It could have been my fault of over tightening the mounting collar, but when I admitted my possible mistake, they didn't try to come up with a reason not to replace the part. They not only sent the part, but got a full unit as well. How is that for good old American quality and service. I would replace it with the same quiet, dependable disposal again if needed in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Quiet! My last GE Disposall came with my new construction home, which I purchased in 2001. 13 years later, I was finally able to renovate my kitchen and it made sense to just buy a new disposal. I was very pleased the longevity of the original 1/3 HP Disposall, so I decided to stick with GE and just leap up to 1/2 HP. I can't believe how quiet this thing is (the last one was so loud that my next door neighbors (town home) knew when I was running it). I am very pleased so far and I hope it lasts as long as its predecessor.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from poor design I purchased this product approximately 3 years ago. I found the installation to be overcomplicated.  Every other disposal manufacturer has an innerchangeable metal sink flange that is ic and simple.  GE decided o use a proprietary mounting system hat is like building an 11 layer turkey sandwich.  Fine.   I Installed it because I didnt  know any better.  Now, 3 years later, i find water under my sink.  The disposal is leaking at the plastic sink flange.  It appears that the vibration from the disposal has unscrewed the GE plastic flange.  My cabinet is soaked and warped.  The rubber o ring and cardboard ring need to be replaced but Menards does not offer them.  Tomorrow i will be buying a disposal not made by GE and that uses the normal metal flange system.  After I fix the cabinet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Promising Manufacture Replace a 14-year old Disposal and it was very simple too do. Very basic tools and mechanical ability & skills needed. This is the second Disposal installed within two week period of the original replacement. Excellent customer service team in resolving a replacement and installation problem. I'm glad I choose this product from GE. Service and response is exceptional and I highly recommend that users take advantage of registering their product. Without it I would have been in a real pickle. Thanks G.E.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from room for improvement Installation would be easier if in step 1-G you noted that the 'removable splash guard' should also be inserted with the stopper to check for leaks. mine leaked until I put in the splash guard also. Electrical connection would be easier if you included a cable camp and provided a larger cavity for the wires. It would be handy if the sink flange were a standard size so that a standard basket strainer/stopper could be used instead of the stopper supplied with the disposer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK product It works fine, but the flange plate that attaches the horizontal tail piece to the disposer, the hole is larger than the flared flange of the tail piece. I had to use the old one from my other disposer to make it work. Further, because of the body of the disposer, the factory flange plates has flat spots in order to fit inside the body of the disposer. Since I used my old flange plate, I had to grind these flat spots on the flange plate to get it to fit.

What exactly is an Extended Service Plan?
An extended service plan is generally an extension of your original manufacturer's warranty. Most manufacturers warranty their products to be free from defects for up to one year from the date of purchase. This warranty virtually guarantees you that if your newly purchased product fails, the manufacturer will protect you from the high costs of replacement parts and labor necessary to repair your product. Extended service plans lengthen your product's coverage for up to an additional 60 months (5 years) to insure you get years of performance satisfaction from your newly purchased product.
How is this different than the manufacturer's warranty?
A manufacturer's warranty usually offers limited coverage for a limited time, with parts and labor carrying separate lengths of coverage. For example, a common manufacturer warranty of a product might cover a consumer for one full year on parts defects but only 90 days on the high cost of labor involved to change those parts. Extended service plans provide comprehensive, long term, even length coverage. This means that should your product fail within your plans coverage time frame, both parts and labor costs are covegrey.
How do I buy an Extended Service Plan?
Extended Service Plans can be purchased along with your product online, or via our toll free number.
Can I renew my Consumer Priority Service extended service plan?
Yes, service plans are renewable and must be submitted 30 days prior to the original plans expiration. Please contact a sales representative to discuss your renewal options.
What should I do if I need extended service?
Our extended service providers offer an easy to use interactive form online which you may use to request that they initiate a claim on your product. Your other alternative is to call the toll-free number on your extended warranty card or email and have a qualified representative make this request for you with the information you will provide. We believe that our claim initiation request process is the absolute best our industry has to offer. It is designed for simplicity and speed.
Who will perform the service on my product?
Our company works with over 11,000 authorized service professionals. Each technician is extensively trained by the respective manufacturers to provide service on your products. Authorized technicians must complete annual and bi-annual continued education exams in addition to being well versed in manufacturer supplied update bulletins to ensure their level of expertise is as current as the new products which come to market. We urge our customers to provide feedback regarding their experiences which we later use to insure that the level of service we are expected to provide is exactly the level of service you receive.
May I transfer my extended service plan to another person?
Our service plans are 100% transferable. If you would like transfer ownership of the covegrey product along with its coverage, we require that the request be supplied in writing. For assistance please contact a Representative. Please have all of the new owner's information at hand when requesting a transfer.
Will I have to pay a deductible or any other "hidden costs"?
Generally, the amount of a deductible is almost always proportional to the amount of the premium charged. In order to have a lower deductible, even as low as $0, the plan holder would generally have to agree to a higher premium. For those who want lower premiums, they must agree to a higher deductible. Our extended service plans carry a $0.00 deductible along with low premiums. This means that with an extended service plan there are no high upfront costs and they are committed to cover 100% parts and labor costs on any authorized claim.
When does my warranty start?
Depending on the type of coverage you own, an extended warranty begins at the conclusion of the shortest portion of the manufacturer’s warranty. If the manufacturer’s warranty was 90 day labor and 1 year parts, the extended warranty would begin on the 91st day and continue for the duration of the warranty period. All replacement, commercial and accidental plans begin on the date of purchase.
Why does my plan say "under $1000"?
Some plans carry a dollar value on them. This means that your product's purchase price, excluding tax, delivery and accessories is below the listed price on the contract. It's simply a classification based on the price of purchase of the product under warranty.
What does an accidental plan cover?
If you have added Accidental Coverage to your plan, this plan shall cover unintentional damages as a result of: impact, liquid damage or unintentional physical damage. Accidental Coverage does not cover intentional damages of any kind to the covered product or losses due to theft. Accidental Coverage does not cover willful damage, misuse, damage due to neglect, drops over 6 feet, fire damage or full immersion in water.

Accidental Coverage does not cover damage caused by the use of a product in a way the manufacturer never intended. Coverage for this plan shall begin 30 days after the date of purchase of the covered product.
Is my service plan worldwide?
All plans carry a worldwide option at no additional charge. Contact a sales professional for further details.
Who do I contact with further questions?
