Downdraft Range Hoods are built underneath your range or cooktop. Because they draw air down rather than following it's natural upward flow, they are somewhat less efficient than updraft range hood venting. They tend to be more aesthetically pleasing, offering a reduced visible footprint and quieter operation. Due to their use of downdraft, they work better with electric stoves; they run the risk of blowing out the flame in gas stoves.
